The Art of the Violin
Cynthia Miller Freivogel, violinist and leader
with featured soloists Stacey Brady, Kathleen Leidig & Katherine Winterstein
(violins), and Lara Turner (cello)
As violin-making reached new heights in the hands of the Guarneri and Stradivari families, Italy’s composers and violinists responded with a dazzling spectrum of virtuosic styles. Our opening program explores violin music of Italy — from the sweetness of Corelli and exuberance of Vivaldi to a breathtaking concerto from The Art of the Violin by Locatelli.

Venus and Adonis
Allison Edberg, guest concertmaster
Guest artists Amanda Balestrieri (soprano), Peter Becker (baritone),
and Robert Sussuma (countertenor)
with the Boulder Children’s Chorale, BCOC Chorus, and additional soloists
In 1683, John Blow composed an inventive masque for the king’s entertainment, history’s first English-language opera. This tale of gods and mortals, love and loss, even includes a bit of social commentary on the state of the court. The drama comes alive in BCOC’s concert version, the latest in our series of 17th-Century Treasures.
